As a little extra gift for my daughter’s 21st birthday I got Veronica an hour with a professional racer car instructor at the Firebird International raceway in Chandler, AZ. She got to drive 3 laps at any speed she liked in a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder.

I couldn’t get a top speed off the film footage and she didn’t look down to check either. But it must have been fast enough because the instructor was a bit shaken at the end.  I don’t think he was ready for a girl to drive the Lambo at such speeds. She was the only driver to be allowed out on the raceway without a lead pace car so I’m thinking they really had no expectation she could push that sports car to its limits. She drove great and made the place sound like a real race track on race day for all 3 laps. What an amazing sounding car when it is being pushed.

If you’re in the area you can setup your own race day at: Global Exotic Car Rentals www.globalexoticcarrentals.com or Call 480-719-7377

I cut a video together of the event and tried to keep the footage in real time between two cameras. But I did cut in 3 time repeats for the big straight away down the back of the track just for the added enjoyment.

While walking around downtown Mesa, AZ for the 2nd Friday gaming night event I stopped by HeatSync Labs hacker space for a quick video tour.

I had helped them move into this space, helped paint before the big move as well as backed the kickstarter for their laser cutter. It was exciting to see how well this hacker space has done and how much it has grown since the beginning. I was never a member and being older was not fond of the term “hacker” in hacker space but I must say it has worked out and the word “hacker” is becoming more accepted and understood.

Every 2nd Friday Downtown Mesa Merchants present “2nd Friday” and this last Friday’s thyme was “Gaming Night”. Many merchants hosted video consoles and retro computer game setups. Others hosted card games, board games and Microsoft was in attendance with a room full of portable consoles playing Halo 4 competitions with prizes. It was a very fun night.

I brought my Apple II plus with Oregon Trail disk and two Commodore 64s with ~60 cartridges. You can checkout this [earlier post] of a teardown and review of my Apple II plus. Below is a video of the events and you can see some photos in the gallery.
